  1. Carlson made three of his four PATs and attempted no field goals in the Saints' 35-27 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.

Carlson's missed PAT on the Saints' second drive of the contest was blocked by Thomas Booker. The missed point was relevant, impacting head coach Kellen Moore's decisions throughout the rest of a contest that was ultimately decided by eight points. Carlson moves to 7-of-8 on PATs and remains 4-of-5 on field-goal attempts through three regular-season games.

  2. Carlson went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made his only extra-point try during Sunday's 24-17 win over Baltimore.

Carlson rebounded well after missing a potential game-winning 62-yard kick wide right to end regulation in the team's 31-30 overtime loss to the Lions in Week 1. The kicker nailed a chip-shot 23-yard field goal in the second quarter before converting a 47-yard try as time expired in the first half. He later added a season-long 51-yard field goal make to cap off the team's first possession of the third quarter. Carlson beat out Tanner Brown and Charlie Smyth for the Saints' starting kicker job last month, and he now has gone 4-for-5 on field-goal tries over two contests to open the 2026 campaign.

  3. Carlson made one of two field-goal tries and converted all three of his extra-point attempts during Sunday's 31-30 overtime loss at Detroit.

Carlson's last field-goal try of the day came on the last play of regulation with the score tied 24-24, and he pushed the 62-yarder just a bit wide to the right. His make was a 28-yard chip shot in the middle of the fourth quarter. He has struggled somewhat attempting longer kicks in recent years, but he'll be looking to bounce back in a Week 2 matchup at Baltimore.

  4. Carlson has won the Saints' kicker competition, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Carlson was the last one to enter New Orleans' three-man competition but also is the last man standing. After signing with the Saints on Monday, Carlson has made the 53-man roster, while Tanner Brown and Charlie Smyth have both been cut. Carlson converted only 22 of 27 field-goal attempts (81.5 percent) for the Raiders in the 2025 regular season, but he has a career conversion rate of 86.9 percent.

  5. Carlson agreed to a contract with the Saints on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

A two-time All-Pro selection with the Raiders, Carlson will add a more battled-tested option to a Saints kicker competition that includes incumbent Charlie Smyth and Tanner Brown. The 31-year-old Carlson had been unsigned since May, and even after a down year with Las Vegas in 2025, he's still converted his field-goal attempts at a stellar 86.9 percent clip through his first eight NFL seasons.
