- The Cardinals are placing Conner (foot) on injured reserve with a designation to return, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix reports.
Conner continues to deal with complications from the foot injury that ended his 2025 campaign Week 3 of last season. Initially, when Arizona didn't place him on the active/PUP list at the start of training camp, it was an indication that he had a chance to be available for Week 1. Instead, Conner will be required to miss at least the first four games following this transaction. Considering rookie third overall pick Jeremiyah Love's status is up in the air due to a high-ankle sprain, Tyler Allgeier may be the team's lead runner in the early going, with Bam Knight backing him up.
RotoWire via ESPN - Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said Wednesday that it's "too early to tell" if Conner (foot) will be ready for Week 1 against the Chargers, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Conner avoided the PUP list at the start of training camp, but that was a month ago, and he still hasn't joined team drills at practice. With Jeremiyah Love (high ankle) also uncertain for the season opener and Trey Benson (knee) on injured reserve, Tyler Allgeier may be tasked with a large workload Week 1. Trade rumors involving Conner may also continue, but the more immediate concern is his slow return to football shape and uncertain availability for the early part of the regular season.
RotoWire via ESPN - Conner (foot) didn't take part in Monday's practice, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
Conner hasn't played in any of the Cardinals' three preseason games so far and also hasn't been seen for the last handful of practices. He's dealing with lingering issues related to the foot surgery he underwent last fall and ended his season after Week 3. With Trey Benson (knee) getting waived/injured Monday, Conner is the top running back behind the duo of rookie third overall pick Jeremiyah Love (ankle) and Tyler Allgeier. Until Conner gets back on the field, though, Bam Knight is the team's likely No. 3 RB.
RotoWire via ESPN - Head coach Mike LaFleur said Saturday that there is no timeline for Conner (foot) to participate in 11-on-11 drills in training camp practice, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Conner continues to rehab from foot and ankle surgery that he underwent last September after suffering a severe injury in Week 3 against the 49ers. It seems unlikely that the veteran running back will play in either of the Cardinals' remaining preseason games, but he could be ready to suit up for the team's regular-season opener against the Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 13. Jeremiyah Love picked up an ankle injury during Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Raiders and is expected to be sidelined for this upcoming week, so Tyler Allgeier figures to serve as the Cardinals' top running back in practice ahead of Arizona's next preseason game against Dallas on Saturday, Aug. 22.
RotoWire via ESPN - Conner (foot) did not play in Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Raiders.
It's not much of a surprise, considering Conner is still working his way back from foot and ankle surgery that he underwent in late September. Neither Conner nor Trey Benson played in Thursday's exhibition contest, though No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love (ankle) saw a fair amount of work against the Raiders, turning 14 touches into 72 yards, while Tyler Allgeier added four carries for 19 yards. Conner, Love and Allgeier figure to all be in the mix for backfield snaps, though who's listed as RB1 by the start of the regular season is up in the air.
