- The Eagles signed Covey to the active roster Tuesday, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Covey returned four punts for 37 yards in Sunday's 24-22 win over the Commanders. The wide receiver's production on special teams has now earned him a spot on the 53-man roster. It remains to be seen if Covey has earned additional responsibilities for next Sunday's game against the Titans.
RotoWire via ESPN - Covey reverted to the Eagles' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Covey saw six special-teams snaps the Eagles' win over the Commanders on Sunday, returning four punts for 37 yards. While Covey's average of 9.3 yards per punt return was impressive, it remains to be seen if he'll be elevated for a Week 2 road matchup against the Titans.
RotoWire via ESPN - The Eagles elevated Covey from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
With the entirety of the Eagles' wide receiver corps healthy, Covey was likely elevated for his value on special teams. There is a good chance Covey takes punt and kick return reps away from Makai Lemon and Will Shipley, keeping the wide receiver and running back fresh for offensive possessions.
RotoWire via ESPN - The Eagles signed Covey to the practice squad Monday.
The Eagles released Covey during Sunday's cut-down day. The wide receiver had a strong enough training camp to receive an invitation back to the team's practice squad. Covey participated in all three preseason games, catching five of his eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown.
RotoWire via ESPN - Covey played 29 offensive snaps in Friday's preseason loss to the Bengals, catching two of four targets for 20 yards.
Covey dealt with a hamstring issue in early August but was able to suit up for all three of Philadelphia's preseason contests. He caught five of eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown during those games and also returned four punts for 38 yards. Covey hasn't done much as a pass catcher to this point in his NFL career, so his tough path to making the 53-man roster is probably more tied to his ability to return kicks.
