- The Giants elevated Haener from their practice squad Saturday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Haener was active for last Sunday's win against Tennessee but didn't get into the game. He was subsequently waived Monday after New York traded for J.J. McCarthy, but Haener then rejoined New York as part of the team's practice squad Wednesday. His elevation for Week 4 likely means Haener will back up Jameis Winston for a second straight week, as Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com notes that McCarthy likely hasn't yet had enough time to familiarize himself with the Giants' playbook.
RotoWire via ESPN - The Giants signed Haener to their practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Haener began the season with the Giants' practice squad before being signed to the active roster last week, only to subsequently be waived following the team's trade for J.J. McCarthy on Monday. Haener will likely continue to serve as the emergency third-string quarterback behind Jameis Winston and McCarthy.

The Giants signed Haener from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. The quarterback was utilized as a backup to Jameis Winston due to the injury to Jaxson Dart (knee). The team traded with the Vikings for quarterback J.J. McCarthy on Monday, meaning Haener's spot on the active roster has been filled by a younger option. If the quarterback clears waivers, there is a decent chance he ends up back with the Giants on the practice squad.

In the wake of Jaxson Dart's serious left knee injury that will sideline him for the rest of the regular season, Jameis Winston will get the first chance to be New York's starting QB on Sunday against the Titans, and Haener's standing as the only other signal-caller on the roster implied that he'd serve as the backup in the initial contest without Dart. Whether or not that'll last beyond Week 3 remains to be seen, but Haener does have NFL experience under his belt, as he completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception and rushed 11 times for 22 yards in eight appearances (one start) as a member of the Saints in 2024.
RotoWire via ESPN - The Giants signed Haener to a contract Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Haener worked out for the Giants in late July after he was let go by the Chiefs in early May. He'll now have the opportunity to compete against Brandon Allen for the QB3 job over the last couple of weeks of training camp. Haener last saw regular-season action in 2024 with the Saints, when he appeared in eight games (one start) and completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception while turning 11 carries into 22 yards.
