- Johnson carried the ball six times for 17 yards and returned one kickoff for 31 yards in Kansas City's 24-10 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
Johnson played 13 offensive snaps and nine special-teams snaps in Sunday's contest. The rookie fifth-rounder continues to give Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker an occasional breather, but Johnson's role on offense doesn't figure to expand beyond that without an injury to the former Seahawk.
RotoWire via ESPN - Coach Andy Reid said Monday that Johnson could carve out a bigger role on offense as the season goes along, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
"As it goes on, I think you get a nice balance between those two (Johnson and Kenneth Walker), and it keeps them even fresher as the season goes on," Reid said. Johnson handled just four touches on offense in Sunday night's overtime win against the Colts, but he turned them into 35 yards and has looked like a legitimate playmaker two weeks into the 2026 campaign. He's solidified himself as one of the premier fantasy bench stashes at running back behind Walker.
RotoWire via ESPN - Johnson rushed eight times for 24 yards in the Chiefs' 31-10 win over the Broncos on Monday night. He added two catches for 44 yards on two targets.
The rookie won the RB2 job behind Kenneth Walker pretty convincingly during training camp and the preseason, and Johnson showed why against Denver, consistently making plays with the ball in his hands. Most of his work came late in the fourth quarter with the game out of hand, but it's evident Johnson is a premier bench stash in fantasy should something happen to Walker.
RotoWire via ESPN - Johnson is in line to be Kenneth Walker's backup for the Chiefs this season.
The Chiefs had final roster cutdowns Sunday and waived veteran Emari Demercado, clearing a path to a role for Johnson. The rookie out of Nebraska impressed throughout training camp and the preseason. Kansas City also has Brashard Smith on the roster, but Johnson may be the handcuff to target for fantasy managers.
RotoWire via ESPN - Johnson rushed seven times for 39 yards and brought in both targets for 15 yards in the Chiefs' 9-9 preseason tie with the Seahawks on Friday.
The rookie fifth-round pick put together a strong finish to an encouraging preseason, one where he rushed 26 times for 123 yards and a touchdown and added a 6-35-0 line on seven targets. Johnson's primary competition for a depth role, Brashard Smith, had a productive 16-carry, 72-yard effort in his own right Friday, so it remains to be seen where each will slot on the depth chart behind the top duo of Kenneth Walker (ankle) and Emari Demercado.
