- Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday that the 49ers could open Kirk's (calf) practice window to return from injured reserve in two weeks, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Shanahan reiterated that Kirk is unlikely to be back at practice next week but is aiming to start participating in sessions following the 49ers' Week 5 tilt against the Seahawks. Kirk opened the season on injured reserve due to a calf injury he sustained in training camp in late July. The 49ers' WR room has been decimated by injuries, with Kirk, Demarcus Robinson (ankle), Ricky Pearsall (knee) and rookie second-rounder De'Zhaun Stribling (ankle) all on IR, and veteran Mike Evans injured his ribs during a Week 3 win over the Cardinals. Given the timeline Shanahan provided, it seems Kirk could be available as soon as Week 6 against the Commanders on Monday, Oct. 19.
RotoWire via ESPN - Kirk (calf) was placed on injured reserve by the 49ers on Sunday with a designation to return.
Kirk missed the entirety of the preseason after suffering a calf injury at practice July 26, and he will now be forced to sit out at least four contests to open the regular season. The wide receiver signed with San Francisco in the offseason, and he was expected to occupy a prominent role on offense. In his absence, rookie wideout De'Zhaun Stribling (shoulder) will have a chance to be an impact player in his NFL debut Week 1 against the Rams in Australia.
RotoWire via ESPN - Kirk (calf) continued to work on a side field at Saturday's practice, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
Kirk has been tending to a calf injury since July 26 and hasn't mixed back into drills in the meantime. There seemingly is a chance he kicks off the season on injured reserve, but he could change the tune by returning to practice or suiting up for Thursday's preseason game in Las Vegas. With all of Mike Evans (quad), rookie second-round pick De'Zhaun Stribling (shoulder) and Ricky Pearsall (knee, IR) banged up at the moment, Deebo Samuel, Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are the top healthy and available wide receivers for the 49ers.
RotoWire via ESPN - Kirk (calf) is not suited up for Thursday's preseason opener against the Titans, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Kirk will spend Thursday night's contest out of uniform on the sideline as he continues to deal with the calf injury he sustained in late July. Once healthy, Kirk will look look to solidify his standing in a 49ers' WR corps that also features Mike Evans (quad), Deebo Samuel and De'Zhaun Stribling. The 29-year-old is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he recorded 28 catches (on 52 targets) for 239 yards and one touchdown across 13 games with the Texans.
RotoWire via ESPN - Kirk (calf) remained sidelined at Saturday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
With Ricky Pearsall (knee, IR) out for the season, Kirk is a candidate to be involved early and often in the 49ers' passing game in his first season with the club, but a calf injury has kept him out of drills for nearly two weeks. Fellow WRs Mike Evans (quadriceps) and Jacob Cowing (hip) also sat out Saturday, so the current top healthy options at the position are Deebo Samuel, rookie second-rounder De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson and Jordan Watkins.
