News

  1. Kolar (forearm) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

Kolar fractured his forearm during the Chargers' Week 2 loss to the Raiders. He'll miss a second consecutive game due to his injury, but the positive news for the fifth-year tight end is that he ended Week 4 prep with a limited practice Friday. Head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters after Friday's session that Kolar is "doing everything and anything possible" to return to the field, and he could get back as soon as Week 5 against the Broncos on Sunday, Oct. 11. For now, Oronde Gadsden will serve as the Chargers' TE1, with Hayden Rucci also in the mix for offensive snaps.

  2. Kolar (forearm) didn't practice Thursday.

Kolar hasn't practiced in any fashion since fracturing his left forearm in a Sept. 20 loss to the Raiders and undergoing surgery two days later. The Chargers have avoided placing Kolar on injured reserve with the expectation that he'll return to action within four games, but he'll almost certainly miss a second straight contest this Sunday in Seattle.

  3. Kolar (forearm) is not practicing Wednesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

Kolar remains unlikely to play Sunday against the Seahawks, as he continues his recovery from a broken forearm, which he suffered in Week 2. Oronde Gadsden, Hayden Rucci and Patrick Herbert handled tight-end duties against the Bills last Sunday.

  4. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Kolar (forearm) won't play Sunday in Buffalo but is expected to avoid placement on injured reserve, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

After undergoing surgery on his fractured left forearm Monday, Kolar had been expected to head to injured reserve and return after missing the minimum four games. However, Harbaugh noted that Kolar ended up receiving a more favorable prognosis than expected once surgery was completed, and the Chargers are now optimistic that the 27-year-old can return to action prior to their Week 7 bye. Kolar will still need to miss at least one game, and with David Njoku (fibula) still ticketed for IR, Oronde Gadsden appears likely to operate as Los Angeles' clear No. 1 tight end for Week 3.

  5. Kolar plans to undergo surgery to repair a broken forearm and is hoping to return from injured reserve when first eligible for the Chargers' Week 8 game against the Rams, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

After signing a three-year, $24.3 million deal with the Chargers in March, Kolar had opened the season as the team's top blocking tight end, a key role in Mike McDaniel's offense, while contributing three receptions for 21 yards on three targets. He exited in the second half of Sunday's 26-14 loss to the Raiders due to the forearm fracture. With Kolar and David Njoku (fibula) both expected to be placed on IR within the next few days, Oronde Gadsden is likely to see a major uptick in snaps as the new No. 1 tight end on the depth chart, although fullback Alec Ingold could also see more work as well.
