News

  1. McCaffrey (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts in London.

McCaffrey suited up for the first time all season in the Commanders' Week 3 win over the Seahawks, but his playing time was contained to special teams. Even with top wideout Terry McLaurin (hamstring) sitting out Sunday, McCaffrey won't be called upon to provide depth at receiver. Washington will go with Stefon Diggs, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown and Jaylin Lane as its available options at the position.

  2. McCaffrey (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

McCaffrey will be a healthy scratch for a second consecutive week, with the Commanders going with six wide receivers on the active game-day roster, led by Terry McLaurin, Stefon Diggs and Antonio Williams. McCaffrey's next chance to play is Week 3 against the Seahawks on Sept. 27, though he doesn't appear to have a clear path to playing time.

  3. McCaffrey (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

McCaffrey, a third-round selection of the Commanders in 2024 NFL Draft, appeared in 26 regular-season games over the first two years of his NFL career. However, he'll be a healthy scratch for Sunday's regular-season opener, with the Commanders carrying five active wide receivers for Week 1. McCaffrey's next chance to play is Week 2 against the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 20.

  4. McCaffrey caught one of three targets for 17 yards in Friday's 41-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.

The Commanders rested all their key personnel and only managed 102 passing yards on the night on 16 completions, putting McCaffrey's line in some perspective. The third-year wideout is fighting for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart behind Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs, but the fact that third-round rookie Antonio Williams didn't play at all Friday could be a sign that the job has slipped away from McCaffrey.

  5. McCaffrey failed to bring in either of his two targets in the Commanders' 20-7 preseason win over the Dolphins on Friday.

McCaffrey played most of the first half but couldn't corral either of the two passes Sam Hartman directed his way. The 2024 third-round pick, who saw his 2025 campaign cut short by a broken collarbone, is in the midst of a pivotal training camp for his future with the franchise, as there are experienced options beneath him such as Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Jaylin Lane and Van Jefferson.
